Spring in Big Bear Lake

Choose your adventure this spring in Big Bear

Big Bear Lake is Southern California's #1 destination for outdoor recreation, so head outside this season to explore it all!

What's one of Big Bear's biggest hidden gems? The stargazing! Big Bear's night sky is an epic wonder due to the valley's high altitude and lack of bright city lights. Keep an eye on the astronomical calendar to catch the next meteor shower!

On the Spring Trails

Adventure seekers will love miles of wooded trails for hiking, endless mountain biking, and horseback riding. No matter your experience, Big Bear's expansive trail system offers a perfect route for every hiker. Wherever you roam, stick to designated routes to preserve the landscape and dispose of all trash in proper bins.

Wildflowers Spring into Bloom

Wildflowers dot the forest in colorful blooms each spring. In late April and May, the one-of-a-kind Pebble Plains come to life at the Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve. At Bluff Lake Reserve, you’ll spot wild Columbine, Yarrow and Indian Paintbrush from late May through July. Many of Big Bear's trails boast impressive Lupine meadows, so keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready!

Springing for High-Altitude Training

At over 6700’ feet, Big Bear Lake is perfect for high altitude fitness training and numerous professional and Olympic level athletes have taken advantage of the thin air. Big Bear hosts numerous athletic events throughout the year including trail runs, mountain bike races, road rides, and more.

Spring Fishing is a Catch

Pack your tackle box and head to the shoreline - or rent a boat and hit the water- for a weekend of fishing on Big Bear Lake. Reel in the rainbow trout, bass, catfish, and more. Big Bear's marinas open in April and offer pontoon and fishing boat rentals. Got your own vessel? Purchase a lake permit and sail from a public launch ramp. Visit the Big Bear Municipal Water District website for more info.
