April is Earth Month in Big Bear Lake!
Earth Day is April 22, 2025 but here in Big Bear Lake we're celebrating our beautiful land all month long! With Earth Day events and activities happening all April long, you can join in fun ways to give back to our environment no matter when you're in Big Bear.
2025 Earth Month Events
Wildflower Walks
Enjoy guided wildflower walks at the Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve most Saturdays, beginning April 5. The Reserve opens at 10 AM with walks scheduled for 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM. Learn about these unique flowers found only in Big Bear.
Int'l Dark Sky Week
April 21 - 28: International Dark Sky Week is a global celebration of the night, and you're invited! The night plays a crucial role in protecting healthy wildlife ecosystems, advancing science and exploration, preserving cultural knowledge, and much more. This International Dark Sky Week, we invite you to join in the fun by taking meaningful actions to protect the night.
Meteor Shower & Stargazing Fun
April 22 & 23 - The Lyrids meteor shower is produced by dust particles from the comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, discovered in 1861. Meteors can produce bright dust trails that last for several seconds. Best viewing will be from after midnight.
Shoreline Clean-Up w/ The Zoo
April 23 - Join the Big Bear Alpine Zoo on their annual lake shore beach clean-up starting at 9:30 AM at the west public boat launch. Please sign up with Vicki Cummings at (909) 260-3735.
Run Wild Through Moonridge
April 26 - Run or walk for a wildly good cause! Moonridge Coffee Company hosts this winding route along Rathbun Creek Trail and through the Big Bear Zoo! Participants can enjoy coffee, pastries & refreshments along the course, a costume contest, same-day Zoo admission and more. All proceeds support the Zoo.
Bear Valley Earth Day Festival
April 26 - Celebrate Earth Day with face painting, bubble play, a drum circle, display booths and more at Ski Beach Park located at Park Ave and Knight. 12 PM - 4 PM.
Bowling for the Zoo
April 27 - Join in a fun day of bowling and help Big Bear Alpine Zoo raise funds to support the care of their resident animals and wildlife rehabilitation efforts.
New Moon for Stargazing!
April 27 - New Moon nights are the best times for stargazing as the moon is hidden, allowing the stars and planets to shine brighter! Two to three nights on either side of this date are also good stargazing times.
Restore the Bear Clean-Up
May 2 - Everyone is invited to join Big Bear businesses, organizations and locals who are teaming up to Restore the Bear during the final Earth Month Clean-Up. The Clean-Up will meet at Dank Donuts at 10 AM to enjoy coffee before dividing up to address different areas of the valley. We'll be removing trash from waterways, parks and other areas. Earth Day Expo
April 18 - Bear Valley Electric Co. in partnership with the Department of Water and Power invites the community to celebrate Earth Day at the annual 2025 Earth Day Expo. Attendees can enjoy free giveaways!
Discovery Center Earth Day Festival
April 19 - The Big Bear Discovery Center is a hub for environmental education and outdoor recreation and to celebrate Earth Day they're hosting a family-friendly festival complete with guided nature walks, hands on educational activities, volunteer opportunities, and games like cornhole, ladder ball and giant Jenga!
Night Sky Photography Workshop
April 19 - Brady Enger, professional photographer and owner of Bending Energy Photography is hosting a photography workshop centered around night sky photography. Learn the ropes of your camera and the best techniques for capturing the night sky.
