Hit the Trail, it's 4x4 season!

Here in Big Bear, we're all about getting outdoors and getting into the rough. Take the wild route and get your adrenaline pumping!
Difficult Trails
1. Gold Mountain - Hard
Strap in tight, this 12 mile long off roading trail will put your Jeep to the test. Either feel the adrenaline course through your veins as you climb over rocky terrain or take a break to stop and enjoy the majestic sights. With limited shading, it's recommended to bring water and other necessary supplies to make your trip carefree!
2. John Bull Trail - Hard
One of the longer trails here in Big Bear - the John Bull Trail is a 15.3 mile loop that gives exhilarating views of the valley from around 8,000 feet elevation. With gigantic boulders and steep climbs, it's recommended to bring a spotter and a lift kit for a safe and fun trip.
3. Wildhorse Meadow Roads - Hard
Ascend those steep slopes and get ready for great views at the Wildhorse Meadow Roads! Sitting at a comfortable trail distance of 11.6 miles, this trail will give your vehicle's slope climbing skills a run for their money!
4. Heartbreak Ridge Via Broom Flats OHV Trail - Hard
If you're seeking a trail that's more on the difficult and long side, then this trail is sure to scratch that itch! The Heartbreak Ridge OHV trail has a distance of around 18.6 miles. Due to it's rocky terrain and need for a spotter, this trail is only for those with high clearance and 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Moderate Trails
5. Balky Horse Canyon - Moderate
For those seeking a little more challenge - Balky Horse Canyon is an absolute must go. At a length of about 6.5 miles, enjoy the stunning sights along the way as you make your way through narrow roads and get close to cliff faces.
6. Delamar Mountain - Moderate
Live life a little more on the edge with the Delamar Mountain Trail! This steep and narrow trail with loose terrain will bring you into the wilderness with style. At a trail distance of around 8.2 miles, the Delamar trail is perfect for those seeking a little more adventure!
7. Skyline Trail - Moderate
Get ready for a wild into the woods trail with the Skyline Trail! At a comfortable distance of about 7 miles, you'll be brought into the forest then through the Santana Ana river and into Redlands. This trail is perfect for those seeking to get their adrenaline rush as you navigate through the sizable ruts present along the trail!
Should you be in the mood to stay and enjoy the sights a little longer - feel free to reserve a spot at one of the many camp sites dotted about the skyline trail.

Easy Trails
8. Broom Flat OHV Road - Easy
Whether your an experienced off roader with many trails conquered or just starting out - this 6 mile trail is an excellent option for those seeking a bit of thrill and beautiful sights with less intensity.
9. Gold Fever Trail - Easy
Get in tune with your adventurous side on this roughly 11 mile long trail. With this beginner friendly trail, you'll be saying Eureka as you are led into the region of Holcomb valley, where you'll see historical sites prospectors had used in during the California Gold Rush!
Please bare in mind that during the winter or following a storm, the Gold Fever Trail can become muddy and form deep ruts making it more challenging to navigate.
10. Big Pine Flats OHV Route - Easy
Having that itch to get into the woods? A great trail for beginners or those seeking a leisurely off roading experience has got to be Big Pine Flats OHV trail. This beautiful trail is nearly 11 miles long and is situated amongst the trees, providing off roaders a lush and secluded into the wilderness vibe!
Forest Closures
Trails on the south side of Big Bear Lake have been closed due to a wildfire back in September 2024 - The opening date has yet to be announced.
