Springtime in Big Bear is a refreshing time of year with wildflowers in bloom, the scent of fresh pine trees and joyous songs sung by a variety of resident birds. This is the time of year to get out and explore the trails by foot, mountain bike or horseback.

Trails are abundant in the San Bernardino National Forest, most notable being the Pacific Crest Trail. The trails in the Big Bear region offer expansive views of the forest, wildlife and valley floor. Most trailheads are easily accessible and lead hikers to summits with outstanding panoramic views. A visit to the Big Bear Lake Visitor Center or the Big Bear Discovery Center provides hikers with every resource to plan a full day of hiking and picnicking.

The pristine, blue lake is thriving with thousands of hungry rainbow trout. Springtime is the ideal time when you can throw just about anything in your tackle box at the fish and they will bite! Anglers are known for catching their limits in springtime. If you really want to get a handle on where the fish are biting take a guided fishing charter. If you just want to relax and take in the beauty of Big Bear Lake you might want to rent a pontoon boat or take a tour on one of Big Bear's tour boats.

In March and April you can still take pleasure in skiing and snowboarding with bluebird days of mild weather and lots of sunshine. It's the time of year when you can have fun on the slopes in shorts and a tank top and come back home with a tan!

Nature enthusiasts and photographers have the benefit of capturing the essence of a wide assortment of wildflowers that bloom throughout the valley and the surrounding national forest. The Big Bear Discovery Center offers wildflower tours from April to June.

Whatever your choice might be for spring recreation in Big Bear, one thing for certain is you will be rejuvenated and inspired.
